Civil War Tug of War
Civil War Tug of War is an experiential exercise that assists students in understanding the events and issues that shaped the history of Texas during the Civil War. The students will participate in a “tug-of-war” game demonstrating the advantages and challenges the North and South experienced during the Civil War. After the game, students will evaluate their reactions to the activity and debrief the meaning of the game on graphically organized notes. As a processing activity, students will create two bar graphs in their Interactive Student Notebook, each representing the advantages held by either the North or South. Additionally, students will write a story in their notebook about the tug-of-war from the perspective of the bandana. Students should include all actions of the game and what each action represents.
