Mount Up! U.S. Cavalry Equipment

The 1910-1920 era marked a period of conflict and transition for the US Calvary and Texas. During this decade, the revolution and unrest in Mexico reached its height with Mexican raids at Boquillas and Glenn Springs in Brewster County on March 9, 1916; the Columbus, New Mexico raid of March 9, 1916; and Brite Ranch Raid December 25, 1917. The US Army had stationed the bulk of its forces along the Texas-Mexico border to provide security and respond to raids. Naturally, cavalry units were most the most versatile for defending the border as they could rapidly react to threats.

So why is cavalry equipment so important? Without their equipment and correct riding techniques, cavalry cannot function.

For want of a nail the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe the horse was lost.
For want of a horse the rider was lost.
For want of a rider the battle was lost.
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost.
And all for the want of a horseshoe nail.
